Memories of the Meseta - 6

In one town, a castle had been built on the top of a pyramidal shape of land that rose above the plain, the last erosion of a table top alto in the Meseta. Pre-roman items have been found there, but the Romans and the Visigoths both appreciated its strategic vantage point, and the town grew up around the hill. The Christians took it in the 10th century and turned it into a waystation on the Camino.
