Distance Report

We have now been walking for four weeks, reaching a grand total of 604 kilometres. Nearing the end of the Meseta. It's been lovely. Easy walking, giving lots of time for thought and reflection. Wheat fields and corn fields and scrubby pines and oaks  among grasses, some so blond they shine white in the sun. Cold mornings and warm afternoons. Traffic is so little in this area at this time that even our walks along or on the roads have not been as bad or as dangerous as we have expected.

As we leave Leon we can see the distant foothills of the mountains that mark the last part of our trek. With the wet climate of Galicia ahead as well as the time of year, now well into October, we can't hope this amazing weather will hold. So we appreciate every foot fall under the sun, and every too hot moment before we arrive at our night's destination.

Our group of new found friends are starting to move past us, as their time frame is shorter than ours and we are sad to say good-bye. How close you can grow in only a week or two! There is always a tight bond among those you meet travelling in close quarters, or when undergoing something physical. Our paths may meet again or they may not, but this trip will always include them in our memories as an integral part of the journey.
