Acorns Away

The route we are passing is often in deep woods, with paths worn down through the ages well below ground level. The path is lined with oak trees that are centuries old, with trunks too thick for two people to clasp hands around. Although still mostly green, there are dry brown leaves already being broken down to join the loam of the Camino.

And everywhere is a carpet of acorns! Little baby oak trees are springing up everywhere, but otherwise they just seem to rot down to nothing. As I look up at the cloudless blue sky through the curtain of leaves, I thank the ancient acorn that provided these wonderful trees, and bless each acorn lying underfoot now, hoping at least some will provide shade for future generations of pilgrims.
