Memories of the Meseta - 2

Up early to tackle a steep climb to the top of one of the Meseta tables, along with a trail of pilgrims. As we climbed the sun came up, and by shading our eyes against the strong yellow light, we were able to see the surrounding table tops, with flat fields below. Everyone else did the same and I wished I had taken a photo from the top of the hill, looking at all these faces: young, old, tired, dark, lined, light - all smiling at the rising sun.

Walking along the top of the alto was like being on top of the world.

At the far end, we had to descend back down to the plains just as sharply, down what is called ``mule killer hill``.
