Wood and Iron

The Phonecians were the first to settle on the Iberian Peninsula, about 1000 BC, followed by the Greeks about 300 years later. Their primary gifts to this land were things that we now associate completely with Spain - ironwork, the olive tree, the grapevine - even the donkey!

Spain became one of the best source of magnificent wrought and forged ironwork. they got lots of practice making weapons for the countless wars and gates for the endless churches. Every man's/woman's house is indeed his/her castle with thick stone walls, tightly closed wooden shutters and stout doors that can not be budged unless the own wants them budged.

Too many to photograph and post, here is but one example of the so-far thousands of doors we have seen. Can there be more iron in the ground?
